May marks the end of the Hot Season and the beginning of the transition into the Rainy Season. Be prepared to be wet in one way or another most of the time. Either it’s hot and humid, leaving you sticky and sweaty — or it rains.
Temperatures and humidity climb even higher than in April. The air feels heavy, and it doesn’t cool down much — not even at night. Some days can reach over 34°C, and with high humidity, it can feel like 40°C or more. In general mornings are the coldest time of the day, with humidity and temperatures peaking in the late afternoon.

The wind still offers a refreshing breeze on many days. It starts shifting and picking up from the west now — a sign of changing seasons.

Rain becomes more common in May. And while it might interrupt your plans occasionally, it’s also a welcome relief from the heat. It can happen that it rains all day, however usually showers and thunderstorms are strong but brief and hard to predict.
If it rains long enough, waterfalls are reliably flowing again. They are the perfect place to escape the heat, especially in the afternoons.

With Low Tide around late morning or early afternoon and High Tide during the night, water levels during the day are usually at their lowest. Beaches are wide and spacious — ideal for a sunset walk. Surface water temperatures — especially in the shallows — can reach up to 33 °C or even 34°C in some years.
Conditions are still generally okay, with the sea staying calm to slightly choppy. But as the west wind picks up, the chance of bigger waves increases.
