September brings consistent strong winds, heavy rains and lots of clourds.

Even though air and water temperatures haven’t dropped significantly yet, it often feels cooler than in previous months due to constant cloud cover and frequent rain. Especially when it rains in the evening, riding a motorbike can feel surprisingly chilly.

The wind, coming from the west to southwest, picks up and carries the heaviest storms of the year. Rain showers, especially after storms, often last for many hours — sometimes it drizzles all day.

Like in August, these phases are sometimes followed by a few sunny days, but they are rare in September. Most days are overcast and damp, with only the occasional break of sun.Waterfalls, fuelled by heavy and prolonged rain, reach their peak power now. They might be difficult to access, but are worth the effort for those wanting to witness their raw force.

Tides are shifting: low tide tends to come earlier in the morning, high tide in the early evening. While this could leave beaches quite wide during the day, powerful waves can make the beach nearly disappear. The sea is often rough, with high waves and strong currents — entering the water can be dangerous. Beware of rip currents.

Visibility underwater is usually poor due to stirred-up sediment, and the sea is rarely calm — snorkelling is only possible on the few calm days after a longer dry spell.
